Hello and welcome back to another edition of THE POSTCARD, Unregistered’s fortnightly roundup of recommendations.
Thoughts, tools, and treats
Take some time to disconnect from the world's negativity and find solace in beautiful things.
Gardens
Six horticultural experts share must-see places well worth traveling to. Nobody should give up on this planet as long as humans can create something so stunningly beautiful.
Poetry
According to their website, Chicago’s Poetry Foundation „recognizes the power of words to transform lives.“ The foundation's work includes an extensive digital archive, maintaining Poetry Magazine, and much more.
Music
New York Pretending to be Paris is a captivating album by composer Eric Schorr that „veers from romantic to jazz to chanson to bossa nova.“ According to Yale Alumni Magazine, it’s about „finding beauty and grandeur in small moments of modern living.“ Beautiful album cover, too.
Design
Sir Jony Ive’s agency LoveFrom has done pro bono work for San Francisco’s William Stout Architectural Books. The bespoke sans serif and the lovely illustrations couldn't be more heartwarming.
Wine
If you want to drink less alcohol without giving up the delight of a good wine, drink by the glass. Eric Asimov encourages restaurants to seize the opportunity and guests to try tasting.
Noteworthy
“One of his favorite aphorisms was that investors would invest more wisely if they were told at birth they could make only 20 investment decisions. Like many of his best sayings, it was also a commentary on living. Selectivity required courage, personal responsibility.”
—Roger Lowenstein, the biographer of Warren Buffett, on the investor's secret to success: long-term orientation. „It sounds easy, but a vanishing few could ignore the momentary fashions, the short-term distractions. His ability to look past the next set of numbers is as rare in business as it is in politics. It required an internal value system, a willingness to think for himself.“
A mystery link leading into the unknown
Gratitude, regrets, ...
As always,
Dirk
P.S.: Feel free to send me pointers to articles, books, sites, pods, tools, and treats that could be interesting for this roundup. While I cannot promise to link them, I read and appreciate every hint.
I own a garden since december now. Seeing it change over the last couple of weeks was a spectacle which I never paid attention to before. Fruits and vegetables growing, flowers in blossom. It sure is a thing of beauty.
