Hello and welcome back to another edition of THE POSTCARD, Unregistered’s fortnightly roundup of recommendations.
Thoughts, tools, and treats
Increasingly, it’s not just individual writers but also magazines that are utilizing Substack as a publishing platform. Here's from my personal reading list.
The Republic of Letters
I'm biased, having written for ROL myself. Still, Sam Kahn's "digitally-forward publication dedicated to contests, debates, and polemics on literary and cultural themes" currently ranks among the most vibrant intellectual magazines on the web.
The Metropolitan Review
Cultivating criticism in a culture dominated by clickbait TMR successfully reinvigorates the art of reviewing.
The Hinternet
Equally admired by Nick Cave and Ezra Klein, Justin Smith-Ruiu’s The Hinternet is not for the intellectually faint-hearted.
Persuasion
The political magazine Persuasion, founded by Yascha Mounk, is dedicated to defending liberal values and promoting reasoned discourse.
Seeds of Science
An interesting journal publishing „independent research“ and „curating the best writing from across the scientific blogosphere.“
Noteworthy
“First: Recognize the situation.
Second: Account for your flaws, proceed from your resources, not your slogans.
Third: Don't complete your personality, but rather each of your works.“
—Gottfried Benn, 1949
A mystery link leading into the unknown
Rushed and drained?
As always,
Dirk
P.S.: Feel free to send me pointers to articles, books, sites, pods, tools, and treats that could be interesting for this roundup. While I cannot promise to link them, I read and appreciate every hint.
