Thanks, Robert. Luhmann's writing style takes some getting used to, though. With a bit more context, the quote goes like this: "And probably there are also specification limits such that artistic means specializing in attracting attention no longer simultaneously lead to acceptable solutions, while acceptable, communicatively convincing art sinks below the threshold of public attention. Whoever seeks beauty then needs the courage to be inconspicuous."

That would apply to some artists, like Richard Long. However, some of the works you cite in your text have a certain conspicuousness due to their sheer monumentality. One would probably have to judge differently depending on the artist or work.
