Hello and welcome back to another edition of THE POSTCARD, Unregistered’s fortnightly roundup of recommendations.
Thoughts, tools, and treats
This week, I've kept myself busy compiling texts about slowing down.
Mind-body programmes
James Carmody, a professor of population health sciences and medicine, is convinced that mind-body programmes „require active engagement: becoming curious about our everyday behaviours and reactions to those we love, to food, to discomfort, and to how we respond to changes in our symptoms.“ After 50 years of practice, he thinks that mind-body training is „inner research, a phenomenological examination of our internal life.“
How to waste a morning (properly)
A field guide to elegant non-productivity, offered by Tomàs Aguir: „It is important not to feel guilty“, he knows, „Wasting a morning only works when done with conviction.“

Which glasses with which wines?
Time for a pour. Here's a concise yet excellent guide on selecting the perfect wine glass (in German).
A new format
Henry Oliver has introduced a new format on his Substack, The Common Reader, where he comments on current news in short, sharp texts. Here’s his piece on the call to drop Goethe from German school curricula. My comment here.
Noteworthy
„About one thousand pages, it is receiving buzz as a new novel to master, some are calling it ‚the new Solenoid‘ (not a positive for everyone, I do understand). I have tried parts in English and parts in German, but still I do not get it. Does it have a plot? Any humor? For purposes of norming, I am a big fan of James Joyce’s Ulysses. I will try it again, however. At least the author was not complacent.“
—Tyler Cowen, reviewing the novel Schattenfroh by the German writer Michael Lentz
A mystery link leading into the unknown
Everyone is talking about the weather.
As always,
Dirk
P.S.: Feel free to send me pointers to articles, books, sites, pods, tools, and treats that could be interesting for this roundup. While I cannot promise to link them, I read and appreciate every hint.
